Georgia's Zourabichvili to join Donald Trump's inauguration, high-level meetings in Washington
Georgia's fifth president, Salome Zourabichvili declares, that she will attend the inauguration of the elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, and simultaneously hold high-level meetings in Washington, D.C.
According to Zourabichvili, she was invited by Republican Congressman Joe Wilson from South Carolina, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media.
She also stated that she maintains contact with foreign partners almost daily and believes that Georgia has the opportunity to emerge from isolation.
"We have the means to break out of isolation. I have a role, and I am fulfilling it completely. I maintain practically daily contacts with our foreign partners. I confirm that I will attend President Trump’s inauguration and will be in Washington at Joe Wilson’s invitation. There are different ways to be invited to the inauguration, none of which involve paying money. If that were the case, others have far more resources than I do to pay such expenses,” she said.
She added, “Jokes aside, the important thing is that I’m going, and I will have high-level meetings."
Earlier today, January 9, Zourabichvili announced that she would continue to serve as president of Georgia. She added that the republic is in the deepest crisis and the way out of it is to hold new parliamentary elections.
Zourabichvili and the Georgian opposition do not recognize the results of the October 26 legislative elections in Georgia, which were won by the ruling Georgian Dream party. In addition, they also do not recognize the election of ex-footballer Mikhail Kavelashvili as the country's president in December 2024.
On January 8, Salome Zourabichvili got a new job at the McCain Institute of the University of Arizona in the United States. Her powers as president of Georgia officially expired at the end of December 2024 after Kavelashvili's inauguration.
