Georgian FM discusses media freedom, disinformation with OSCE representative
Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili held a meeting with Jan Braathu, the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, to discuss challenges related to media freedom and independence in the OSCE region.
During the OSCE Ministerial in Vienna, Botchorishvili highlighted that the discussions also addressed the issue of disinformation, noting that Georgia has frequently faced media campaigns based on unsubstantiated information, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media.
“We also discussed ongoing campaigns related to disinformation and efforts to counter it. This is a particularly sensitive issue for Georgia, as often, based on unsubstantiated information, specific campaigns are carried out against our country through the media,” she noted.
She emphasised the country’s concern over ongoing disinformation efforts and the importance of countering them.
The meeting further explored the role of the media in Georgia’s political processes and public life. Botchorishvili underlined the significance of media freedom and the broader OSCE framework, stressing Georgia’s commitment to cooperation and continued consultations with its international partners.
