Georgian FM to discuss country's accession to EU in Brussels
Georgian Foreign Minister Ilya Darchiashvili will pay a working visit to Brussels on May 16-18, where he will discuss the completed questionnaire that the republic received to open the discussion on joining the European Union.
As part of the visit, Darchiashvili will meet EU foreign ministers in Brussels, TASS reports, citing the Georgian Foreign Ministry press service.
"Georgian Foreign Minister Ilya Darchiashvili will pay a working visit to Brussels on May 16-18 this year. Ilya Darchiashvili will meet the foreign ministers of the EU countries who are going to Brussels for a meeting of the EU Council on Foreign Affairs. The agenda of European integration, issues related to filling out the questionnaire of the European Commission by the Georgian side will be considered at the meetings," the message reads.
Darchiashvili will also discuss with his foreign partners the current security situation in the region, the press service of the Foreign Ministry added.
On March 3, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili sent an application to the EU for the country to obtain the status of a candidate for membership in the community. In response, on April 11, the European Union handed over a questionnaire to Georgia. On May 2, the republic sent the first part of the completed document to the European Union, and on May 10 - the second part.
