Georgian lawmaker says international legal system “virtually destroyed”
The system of international law and global rules has been "virtually destroyed," Chairman of the Georgian Parliament's Committee on European Integration Levan Makhashvili has stated, arguing that the erosion of international law has had negative consequences for international organisations.
Makhashvili said instead of fulfilling the purpose for which international laws were originally created, these organisations are being used as arenas for political confrontation and as spaces for political retaliation and revenge, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
Commenting on a critical resolution adopted by the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, the Georgian lawmaker noted that representatives of the organisation had apologised in private conversations and referred to political circumstances, but had not publicly supported Georgia's position.
“Because international law no longer exists, the negative consequences have spilt over into international organisations. Instead of fulfilling the purpose for which they were originally created, these organisations are being used as arenas for political confrontation and as spaces for political retaliation and revenge,” he stressed.
