Georgian PM calls Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway successful cooperation
The Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK) railway is a successful example of cooperation between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye and a historically significant initiative, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has stated.
Speaking at the ceremony marking the commissioning of the BTK railway, Kobakhidze described the project as an example of strategic and consistent partnership among the three countries, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
He noted that the reconstruction of the Marabda–Kartsakhi railway section is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the region.
Kobakhidze said the BTK line has been operating in test mode since 2017, transporting more than 1 million tonnes of cargo, including around 80,000 containers.
He added that the BTK railway is an important part of the Middle Corridor and plays a significant role in strengthening connectivity between Europe and Asia.
He also said that after modernisation, the line’s annual capacity has increased to 5 million tonnes, boosting the region’s transit potential.
