German chancellor advocates for increased deportations of illegal migrants
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has articulated a clear intention to enhance the deportation of migrants lacking legal status in Germany.
In an interview with the German newspaper, Scholz emphasized the need to enforce immigration laws rigorously and mitigate illegal migration, Caliber.Az reports.
“Anyone who does not have the right to remain in Germany must leave the country. This necessitates an uptick in deportations. We are addressing this issue with determination: the number of deportations has increased by 20 per cent this year, yet there is still room for improvement,” Scholz stated.
He highlighted that Germany has implemented border controls and curtailed benefits for asylum seekers. “We have made it abundantly clear that individuals who commit serious criminal offenses while seeking refuge cannot expect the same protections as those who adhere to societal norms,” he noted, mentioning efforts to deport offenders back to Afghanistan.
“Those wishing to come to Germany for work—particularly in hospitals, businesses, care services, and research—are welcome. However, we must retain the authority to select who enters our country. It is crucial that we uphold the law, and decrease illegal migration,” the Chancellor concluded.
