Germany unveils military aid package for Ukraine
Spokesman for the German Defence Ministry Mitko Müller has said that a new aid package for Ukraine, valued at 650 million euros, includes IRIS-T surface-to-air missile defence systems, Leopard-1 tanks, as well as reconnaissance and strike drones.
"The German aid package to Ukraine includes German-made reconnaissance and strike drones from the company Helsing, with 4,000 units to be delivered to Kyiv starting in December this year. The package also contains two IRIS-T air defence systems, ten Leopard-1 tanks, and 6,000 unguided missiles, along with 500 guided missiles," Müller said, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
He also highlighted that the new aid package would include winter clothing for Ukrainian forces. Spokesman for the German government Wolfgang Büchner noted that most of the weaponry included in this package was announced in October. Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that during his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he would announce additional military aid to Ukraine totaling 650 million euros.
He confirmed his visit to Kyiv and emphasised that the purpose of the trip was to show solidarity with Ukraine and to clearly convey that Germany will remain the leading European nation supporting Ukraine.
Sociologist and historian Anastasia Edel mentioned that Ukraine might lose Western support following the potential victory of Donald Trump in the upcoming US presidential elections. She argued that Western countries are becoming weary of the ongoing conflict and are no longer willing to provide Ukraine with military assistance.
