Governor: Yaroslavl oil refinery damaged in overnight drone attack PHOTO

17 September 2026 09:21

An oil refinery in Yaroslavl was damaged in an overnight Ukrainian drone attack, with no casualties reported, Yaroslavl Region Governor Mikhail Yevrayev said on September 17.

“There is damage to the oil refinery. Emergency crews are working to extinguish the fires. Windows in several apartment buildings were also broken by falling debris, and cars were damaged,” Yevrayev wrote.

According to the governor, Russian air defences shot down 65 drones during the attack.

The refinery identified as Slavneft-YANOS caught fire in Yaroslavl during the night, according to an analysis by ASTRA based on footage of the incident. The facility has reportedly been targeted repeatedly and has caught fire at least eight times in 2026.

The latest incident came after a large-scale overnight drone attack on the Yaroslavl region. Regional authorities had earlier announced a drone threat and temporarily restricted traffic on the M-8 highway on the outskirts of Yaroslavl toward Moscow.

The refinery is one of Russia’s major oil-processing facilities and has previously been affected by drone attacks. In early August, drone debris reportedly fell into refinery storage tanks, causing a fire that was later extinguished.
