Great Return: Azerbaijan dispatches new group of residents to Kalbajar
Azerbaijan has dispatched another convoy of former internally displaced persons (IDPs) to the town of Kalbajar as part of its ongoing resettlement efforts.
In this phase, 27 families comprising 113 people are being relocated to Kalbajar, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The families had been living in temporary accommodation across the country, including hostels, sanatoriums and administrative buildings.
The relocation is part of the government’s “Great Return” programme, launched after Azerbaijan’s victory in the 2020 war, which aims to resettle more than one million former IDPs in their ancestral lands by 2030.
The initiative includes large-scale reconstruction of housing and infrastructure, as well as the development of schools, healthcare facilities, utilities and other essential services. Authorities say the programme also prioritises mine clearance and sustainable development to support long-term resettlement in the region.
