“Great Return”: New group of families arrives in Azerbaijan’s Shukurbeyli village UPDATED
Another group of formerly displaced families arrived in the restored village of Shukurbeyli in Azerbaijan’s Jabrayil district on May 21, as part of the ongoing resettlement program, according to state media.
A total of 165 people from 39 families reached their native village after departing earlier in the day. The returning residents, many moved to tears, stepped onto the land of their rebuilt homes and took in the surroundings of their native region.
The village has been fully reconstructed in line with modern standards and equipped with comprehensive infrastructure to support comfortable living.
Facilities include two nursery-kindergartens with a capacity of 80 children each, a school for 360 students, a medical centre, a music school, a community club, and an administrative building for local authorities. In addition, a 35/10 kV electrical substation has been built, along with electricity, gas, drinking water, communication, internet, and IPTV networks. Internal roads have also been asphalted.
At the initial stage, 635 private houses have been commissioned, including 615 for residents and 20 for official use. The homes range from two to five rooms. In total, Shukurbeyli is expected to accommodate 2,522 people across 615 families, including residents from nearby settlements such as Shikhaliaghali, Dajal, and the town of Mahmudlu.
Returning residents expressed deep satisfaction with the state support and voiced deep gratitude to the country’s leadership for providing modern living conditions.
Residents paid tribute to the heroic martyrs who secured this historic Victory and liberated the lands at the cost of their lives. They also wished long life and good health to the veterans who showed courage in battle, emphasising that the revival of the territories liberated from occupation has become possible precisely because of this selflessness, noting that the new life beginning today is the fruit of the Victory granted by the martyrs and veterans.
