Greece rules out transfer of Patriot, S-300, or F-16 to Ukraine
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has firmly stated that Greece will not be transferring its US-made Patriot air defence missile systems or the Soviet-Russian S-300 systems to Ukraine.
This declaration came during a press conference held at the conclusion of the NATO summit in Washington, where he underscored Greece's commitment to supporting Ukraine's defense efforts while adhering to strategic considerations, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
Mitsotakis clarified that while Greece has provided other types of anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine, these have been of shorter range and were done so with the explicit consent and strategic approval of Greece's national defense general staff. The decision not to transfer the more advanced Patriot and S-300 systems aligns with Greece's broader defence policy and its regional security commitments.
Regarding the initiative to supply F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, Mitsotakis reiterated that Greece has opted not to participate in this specific effort. He emphasized that other nations have chosen to contribute in this manner, while Greece's approach focuses on providing surplus weaponry and support mechanisms that are deemed most effective in bolstering Ukraine's defensive capabilities.
