Houthi group claims missile strike on Israel's Ben Gurion Airport, attack on US carrier
The Houthi group claimed responsibility for a missile strike on Israel's Ben Gurion Airport and an attack on a US aircraft carrier in the Red Sea on March 20.
Yahya Saree, a spokesman for the Houthis, stated that they had launched a hypersonic ballistic missile at the airport, claiming a direct hit, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
The Israeli military acknowledged the attack but confirmed that the missile was intercepted outside of Israeli airspace, with no casualties reported. Sirens were triggered as a precaution against potential falling debris.
Saree also said the Houthis had targeted US warships, including the USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier, with rockets and drones. The United States has yet to comment on these claims.
On March 19, nine Yemenis were reportedly injured in US airstrikes in Yemen. Houthi authorities said the US had conducted over 60 airstrikes since March 15, resulting in more than 50 deaths and dozens of injuries.
The Houthis have been targeting Israeli-linked vessels passing through key maritime routes, including the Red and Arabian seas, Bab al-Mandab Strait, and Gulf of Aden, since late 2023. The attacks are framed by the group as acts of solidarity with Gaza.
While they paused these operations during a January ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the Houthis resumed them earlier this month following Israel's restrictions on humanitarian aid to Gaza.
