Hungarian PM: Europe must adjust to new geopolitical landscape to survive

21 November 2024 18:04

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has stated that the West no longer holds dominance in the world, with Asian nations emerging as independent centres of influence, and that Europe must adjust to this new geopolitical landscape in order to survive.

Speaking at the fifth Eurasian Forum in Budapest, Orban shared his views on the shifting global power dynamics, Caliber.Az reports referring to foreign media.

According to the Prime Minister, for decades, Western countries attempted to impose their development model on the world, believing that other nations would adopt it in exchange for economic and financial advantages.

"This idea has failed," he told the forum attendees, which was held under the aegis of Hungary's National Bank, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

Orban highlighted the rise of Asian countries, noting their strengthened position as independent economic and political powers.

"As a result, the centre of global economic activity has shifted eastward, with Eastern economies growing four times faster than those in the West. The added value of Western industry accounts for 40%, while Eastern industries make up 50%. This is the new reality," Orban explained.

He warned that the European Union is losing out from these changes and will continue to do so unless Europe finds its place in relation to Asia and establishes mutually beneficial cooperation across the Eurasian region.

"Without this, we will not be able to compete with other centres of power," the Prime Minister stressed.
