Hungary pushes to host US-Russia “peace summit” on Ukraine
Hungary has reaffirmed its position that any potential US-Russia summit on Ukraine should be held in Budapest.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said that the capital remains the only location about which “there is no doubt.” “We are ready to host the summit as soon as the participants are prepared,” he added, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
Szijjártó also noted that Washington is continuing work on a “peace initiative,” though he said he is not familiar with its specific details.
Earlier reports suggested that US President Donald Trump’s team had drafted a confidential 28-point plan in consultation with Moscow. The plan reportedly included the cession of the entire Donbas region to Russia, reductions in the size of the Ukrainian military, and the recognition of Russian as a second state language.
Attempts to coordinate the summit with Kyiv have so far stalled. Ukrainian authorities reportedly presented their own plan, which Moscow is unwilling to accept, preventing the meeting from moving forward.
