IAEA Chief worries about situation at Zaporozhye nuclear plant
Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi said on Thursday following his trip to Ukraine that he was going to meet with Russian representatives in the coming days to discuss the situation at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), TASS reports.
According to Grossi, the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is at the top of his list of concerns. The situation at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is stable, he noted. In this regard, Grossi announced the need to conduct an IAEA inspection at the ZNPP.
“In a few days, I will meet with my Russian colleagues and continue the discussion,” the IAEA Director General said at a press conference. He specified that the meeting would not take place in Vienna.
Grossi visited Ukraine and the Chernobyl nuclear power plant from 26 to 28 April. He led a mission of IAEA experts to deliver technical equipment, measure radiation levels and restore the nuclear safeguards monitoring system at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
