India, Iran FM's hold talks over escalating crisis
India’s Foreign Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, held a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, to discuss the unfolding situation in Iran amid growing concerns over a potential US military intervention.
Jaishankar confirmed the discussion in a post on Facebook, stating that the talks focused on the situation in Iran and the wider region.
“Received a call from Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. We discussed the evolving situation in and around Iran,” he wrote.
The call came on the same day that India advised all its citizens in Iran to leave the country by any available means, reflecting heightened regional tensions.
The Indian government on January 14 advised its nationals in Iran to depart the country as soon as possible, citing an evolving security situation amid growing regional tensions and ongoing protests.
The advisory, issued by the Indian embassy in Tehran, follows an earlier alert from 5 January. It urged Indian citizens – including students, pilgrims, business travellers, and tourists – to leave Iran by any available means, including commercial flights.
“In view of the evolving situation in Iran, Indian nationals currently in the country are advised to exit at the earliest by available means of transport,” the embassy statement said.
