India poised to finalise deal with Russia for advanced Voronezh radar system
India plans to sign a deal with Russia to purchase the advanced Voronezh long-range radar system, which is capable of detecting objects at great distances.
The value of the agreement is expected to exceed $4 billion, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
India is close to finalising a significant defence deal with Russia for the acquisition of the advanced Voronezh radar system. The value of the agreement is estimated to exceed $4 billion.
According to reports, negotiations between India's Ministry of Defence and the Russian delegation, led by the Almaz-Antey Air and Space Defence Corportation (the manufacturer of the radar), have progressed rapidly. High-level meetings were held in New Delhi and Bangalore (in the southern Indian state of Karnataka), where the details of the deal were discussed. Around 60 per cent of the system's components are expected to be manufactured in India under the terms of the planned contract.
The next generation of these radar systems, known as Yakhroma, has already been developed and is being deployed. Yakhroma represents an advanced evolution of the Voronezh radar technology.
The radar has a detection range of up to 8,000 kilometres. This radar operates in the decimeter range, with a detection range of up to 6,000 kilometres horizontally and up to 8,000 kilometres vertically. It is capable of tracking up to 500 airborne objects and guiding anti-aircraft missiles.
