Indiana teen sentenced to 100 years in prison over fatal gang shooting
A 15-year-old boy in the US state of Indiana has been sentenced to 100 years in prison for his role in a gang-related shooting that killed one woman and injured two others in 2025, prosecutors have said.
Madison County Circuit Court Judge David Happe sentenced Jo'Majze Larry over the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Dayla Swain outside a nightclub in Anderson in February 2025, Caliber.Az reports, citing ABC.
According to prosecutors, Swain was not the intended target. The shooting was a botched attempt to kill a witness in the 2023 murder of 15-year-old Jullian Craig. Another woman was wounded in the gunfire, while a third person was injured after being struck by a vehicle fleeing the scene.
Larry and co-defendant Rashawn Samuels, 19, were found guilty by a jury of murder, attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Both later admitted to an enhanced charge of participating in a criminal organisation.
Larry received a 50-year sentence for murder and an additional 50 years for the gang enhancement, bringing his total sentence to 100 years. Samuels was sentenced to a total of 125 years in prison.
A third defendant, 19-year-old Kyree Craver, was previously convicted of Swain's murder and sentenced to 90 years in prison. A fourth suspect is expected to stand trial later this year.
Under Indiana law, because Larry committed the crime as a juvenile, he may petition the court for a review of his sentence after serving at least 20 years in prison.
