Inside Israel's attack on Iran: Over 100 aircraft and 2,000-kilometre mission

26 October 2024 13:55

Israel's recent operation against Iran mobilized more than 100 aircraft, spearheaded by Adir (F-35) jets, covering an impressive distance of around 2,000 kilometres.

Reports in Israeli media indicate that the strikes primarily targeted two significant areas Kerej and Tehran, per Caliber.Az.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) described the air operation, labelled “Days of Repentance,” as executed in multiple waves, with a clear focus on military targets rather than nuclear or oil installations, aiming to avoid escalating the conflict further.

While the total damage is still being evaluated, the IDF has indicated an expanded operational scope. Initial assessments suggest that the first phase of the attack involved strikes on radar stations and air defence systems, setting the stage for subsequent assaults on military bases. This operation was preempted by actions in Syria designed to disrupt Iranian air defences.

Carrying out such a comprehensive strike necessitated significant refuelling capabilities and placed the Air Rescue Unit on high alert.

In an official statement, the IDF reiterated, “Our focus remains on the challenges in Lebanon and Gaza, while Iran continues to push for regional escalation. We stand ready for both defensive and offensive operations, with our command directives unchanged. We are conducting ongoing intelligence and operational evaluations. We have proven our ability to strike anywhere in the Middle East.”

The head of the IDF Spokesman's Office, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, addressed the IDF's retaliatory strike against Iran early on the morning of October 26.

“We achieved all of our objectives,” he declared. “We consider our mission a complete success, and it should conclude here. However, should the Iranian regime believe otherwise, our fighter jets are ready and on standby for an immediate reattack, with their weapons primed.”

Hagari refrained from specifying the exact targets of the strikes, stating, “Details will be revealed soon. But I assure you if we describe it as a ‘pinpoint strike,’ it indeed was, precisely hitting what was intended.”
