Iran clears final hurdle to slash four zeros from national banknotes
Iran’s Council of Constitutional Guardians has confirmed that the resolution to remove four zeros from the country’s national currency bills does not contradict the Iranian constitution or Islamic law.
The Council’s official spokesman, Hadi Tahan Nazif, made the announcement via X (former Twitter), as per Caliber.Az.

The Council of Constitutional Guardians reviews legislative initiatives to ensure compliance with the constitution and Islamic norms, typically serving as the final stage in the approval process.
“The bill … on the removal of four zeros from the national currency bills … after being corrected in parliament and reconsidered by the Council of Guardians was not recognised as contradicting the provisions of Sharia and the constitution,” Tahan Nazif said.
Media outlets recalled that in mid-October, the supervisory committee of Iran’s Political Expediency Determination Council had approved the denomination plan to remove four zeros from the national currency bills.
Earlier, on October 5, the Iranian parliament passed a bill formalising the removal of four zeros from the country’s currency as part of its currency reform measures.
