Iran reveals "drafting" framework to advance future US talks
Iran has discussed "drafting" a framework for the next round of negotiations with Washington during a phone conversation with the UN's nuclear watchdog.
During direct talks with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has discussed a structure that would enable to advance future talks with the US, Caliber.Az reports citing Iranian media.
According to a statement from Iran’s foreign ministry, Araghchi thanked Grossi “for his participation in the negotiations in Geneva.” During the phone call, the Iranian minister emphasized Tehran’s commitment to “developing an initial and agreed framework structure to advance future negotiations” with Washington.
Grossi, for his part, gave a positive assessment of the February 17 consultations and “confirmed the agency’s readiness to provide support and assistance” in shaping the agenda for the talks.
The two men met on February 16 ahead of the second round of negotiations between the United States and Iran, mediated by Oman, which took place in Geneva the following day. Iran's minister positively evaluated the talks, stating that the sides reached mutual understanding on a number of issues that could be incorporated into a draft future agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.
US Vice President JD Vance said the talks had gone well in several respects but noted that Tehran was not yet ready to accept certain key positions outlined by the White House. The time and venue of the next round of negotiations have not been disclosed so far.
