Iran's ambassador to Lebanon lost eye in pager explosion
Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amini, sustained severe eye injuries, including the loss of one eye, when a pager he was carrying exploded amid a series of attacks on wireless electronic devices.
Two anonymous members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps revealed that Amini's injuries were more critical than initially reported and that he will be airlifted to Tehran for further treatment, Caliber.Az reports via Israeli media.
Hossein Soleimani, editor-in-chief of Mashregh, the Revolutionary Guards’ main news site, confirmed the severity of Amini’s injuries.
“Unfortunately, the injuries sustained by Iran’s ambassador were extremely severe in his eyes,” Soleimani stated.
Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, condemned the attack and offered to medevac Amini and other injured individuals to Iran.
Notably, on September 17, an explosion involving communication pagers used by Hezbollah members resulted in significant casualties across southern Lebanon, including the southern suburbs of Beirut, the Beqaa Valley, and Damascus. Lebanese Health Minister Firass Abiad confirmed that the blast claimed the lives of eight individuals and left approximately 2,750 injured, with 200 in critical condition. The incident underscores the dangers associated with such devices in conflict zones.
According to Western media, Israel’s Mossad spy agency planted explosives in 5,000 pagers imported by Hezbollah months before the explosions.
