Iran’s FM heads to Russia for urgent talks with Putin Amid Soaring tensions with US
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has announced that he is traveling to Moscow for high-level talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The visit comes just days after US airstrikes targeted key Iranian nuclear sites, escalating tensions in the region, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Speaking to reporters, Araghchi confirmed the urgent diplomatic mission, stating, “I'm heading to Moscow today, and tomorrow morning I have a meeting with President Putin.”
Araghchi emphasised the strength of the relationship between Tehran and Moscow, referring to Russia as a strategic partner at a time when Iran faces growing international pressure and internal uncertainty.
He also noted that on June 23, he would hold serious consultations with the Russian leader.
The US launched airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities on June 22 morning. US President Donald Trump stated that a full payload of bombs was dropped on Fordow, calling it the primary target of the operation. Satellite imagery has since revealed visible damage to the entrances of the Fordow facility and to the mountain under which the site is located.
