Iran’s Pezeshkian calls for new governance approach amid war
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on May 20 that traditional methods of governing are no longer sufficient to address the country’s current challenges, stressing the need for new approaches and structural reforms.
According to the president’s press office, Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with provincial governors, where he said many of Iran’s problems would already have been resolved if existing governance methods had been effective on their own.
Speaking about the need for change, he said Tehran must adopt more creative solutions to deal with mounting economic and political pressures.
“We will either find a way or forge a new one,” he said.
Separately, the Iranian president addressed the impact of the ongoing war in the country, warning that short-term measures alone would not be sufficient to resolve deeper challenges.
“To overcome the consequences of the war, we must act with prudence, planning, and a long-term vision. Some current measures, while necessary to control the situation, are essentially a temporary relief; solving the root economic and social problems requires structural and sustainable planning,” he said.
