Iran is determined to finalise a document on a comprehensive strategic partnership with Armenia.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with Armenian Defence Minister Suren Papikyan, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Earlier, Iran’s ambassador to Armenia, Khalil Shirgolami, stated at a reception commemorating the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution that Armenia and Iran plan to sign a comprehensive strategic cooperation document, presumably during Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s visit to Tehran in 2026.
“Strengthening economic and corridor cooperation with Armenia is at the centre of Tehran’s attention,” Pezeshkian said.
He emphasised that the higher the level of relations in the political, economic, energy, and infrastructure spheres, the better the interests of the two nations will be secured. Strengthening economic and corridor cooperation with Armenia is also among Tehran’s priority tasks.
The press service of the Armenian Ministry of Defence specified that Papikyan and Pezeshkian discussed strengthening peace and stability in the region. Papikyan stressed the need to resolve the current situation around Iran through diplomatic means. They also exchanged views on matters of international and regional security.
