Iran criticises Trump’s peace approach, says US pressure fuels “law of jungle”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticised US President Donald Trump’s approach to peace, saying that relying on pressure and coercion effectively promotes a “law of the jungle.”
He argued that such rhetoric undermines decades of international efforts to build a rules-based global system, Caliber.Az reports, citing Tasnim News Agency.
After meeting with members of Iran’s Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission on January 5, Araghchi told reporters that Trump’s rhetoric seeks to justify a world where power dictates right, emphasising that this approach undermines efforts to achieve peace through diplomacy and dialogue.
The minister emphasised that this approach threatens nearly 80 years of international achievements since the end of World War II, when the global system was built on laws and norms. He added that it raises serious concerns for almost all countries and many international relations experts.
Araghchi also briefed lawmakers on the situation in Venezuela, noting that Iran’s embassy in Caracas continues to operate fully, with the ambassador and staff performing their duties. Discussions additionally covered economic diplomacy, using foreign policy to meet national needs, and opportunities for cooperation with neighbouring countries.
