Iranian lawmaker warns US against insincerity ahead of Geneva nuclear talks
An Iranian lawmaker has warned the United States that any insincerity in nuclear negotiations would be met with a “decisive response” from Tehran, as indirect talks between the two countries continue.
Abbas Moghtadaei, deputy chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Iran’s parliament, said Iran must approach the negotiations cautiously, citing a history of deception in U.S. foreign policy, Caliber.Az reports per Iranian media.
Moghtadaei added that the United States should lift sanctions as part of any agreement and indicated that Iran is prepared, in return for concessions, to adjust its uranium enrichment levels according to a negotiated framework.
The comments come ahead of the second round of indirect nuclear talks, mediated by Oman, which are set to take place on February 17. Officials say the discussions will focus on Iran’s nuclear programme and potential steps toward reviving or reshaping diplomatic agreements surrounding it.
