Iraq, UAE leaders call for regional de-escalation after Erbil consulate attack
Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani held telephone talks with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, to discuss the latest regional developments, Baghdad said.
According to a statement released by the prime minister’s media office, the two leaders stressed the need to maintain joint Arab coordination and intensify diplomatic engagement at both regional and international levels to curb escalation and work toward ending the ongoing war as soon as possible, Caliber.Az reports.
They warned that continued hostilities risk deepening instability and tension across the region.
The leaders also condemned the recent attack targeting the UAE consulate in the city of Erbil. They reaffirmed their rejection of attacks on diplomatic missions and underscored the importance of strengthening diplomatic efforts to halt military operations and return to negotiations.
Both sides emphasised that restoring stability and safeguarding the security and resources of regional states remain a shared priority.
