Ireland assumes EU council presidency, taking over from Cyprus
Ireland assumed the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union on July 1, taking over from Cyprus for a six-month term that will run until January 1, 2027.
Dublin has pledged to advance the implementation of the One Europe – One Market Roadmap, which sets out urgent steps for the EU in areas including simplifying regulations for businesses and citizens, deepening the single market, protecting fair and open trade, lowering energy prices, decarbonising the economy, and promoting artificial intelligence and digital transformation, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin said the EU, under Ireland's presidency, would continue its unwavering support for Ukraine.
"The Ukrainian people have shown such courage and determination in defending their country. They deserve a just and lasting peace," Martin noted.
Ireland also pledged to support countries seeking to join the European Union by helping advance their accession efforts to promote greater prosperity and stability across the region.
