IRGC official says US “begging” for deal amid energy pressures
A political deputy commander in the naval division of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Tuesday, May 26, that the United States is effectively “begging” for an agreement with Iran, citing the impact of regional developments and energy prices on Western economies, according to official media reports, cited by Iran International.
Mohammad Akbarzadeh, an IRGC official, stated that both the United States and Europe remain highly vulnerable to fluctuations in fuel prices and instability in the region, which he described as a source of leverage for Iran in its dealings with the West.
“Iran’s missile capabilities and the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz demonstrated the country’s deterrence power, and Iranian armed forces were fully prepared to respond to any future attack,” he said.
Akbarzadeh also claimed that the United States and Israel consider war only as a “last option,” arguing that any potential military action against Iran would ultimately fail.
He added that such a scenario would lead to “failure and humiliation for Washington.”
