Israel focuses on preventing Iranian weapons smuggling to Hezbollah IDF spokesperson says
Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, the spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), highlighted the country's position on the ongoing conflict between Bashar al-Assad's Syrian forces and the Syrian opposition, emphasizing that Israel’s primary concern lies with Iran’s activities in the region.
“What is happening now in Syria concerns Syria, not Israel. We are a sovereign country, and our only concern is ensuring that Iran does not smuggle weapons into Lebanon for Hezbollah through Syria,” Hagari stated, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
He added that the IDF would take appropriate action in response to any attempts at such smuggling.
Hagari pointed out that the Israeli military is closely monitoring developments in Syria, noting that the Iranian regime is sending weapons to the country. He also addressed the 60-day ceasefire agreement with Lebanon, highlighting that it aims to prevent the establishment of terrorist bases in the region.
“This is a gradual, step-by-step process designed to ensure that Hezbollah cannot harm Israel and will not violate the agreement, as it did in 2006,” Hagari explained.
He emphasized the crucial role of the Lebanese government and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in ensuring the ceasefire is upheld, stating, "It is in their interest as well."
