Israel keeps its airspace closed amid tensions with Iran
Israeli airspace remains completely closed to civil aviation amid escalated tensions with Iran, according to a joint statement by the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Transport.
The document notes that once approval is received from the relevant security authorities and the airspace is reopened, the Ministry of Transport will inform the public about the procedures for resuming flights, per Caliber.Az.
Coordination with airlines and the provision of additional instructions will be carried out in the near future.
Since June 13, escalating military confrontations between Israel and Iran have led to a significant security crisis in the region. The two countries have exchanged missile and drone strikes, prompting Israel to take precautionary measures to protect its airspace and civilian population.
As a result, Israel has closed its airspace completely to all civilian flights due to security concerns. This move has led to the suspension of all inbound and outbound flights by the Israeli national carrier, El Al. Additionally, several major international airlines—including British Airways, Lufthansa, Emirates, and Qatar Airways—have canceled or rerouted their flights, affected by broader airspace closures throughout the Middle East.
Neighbouring countries such as Iran, Iraq, and Jordan have also restricted their airspace, disrupting traditional flight routes and complicating international aviation in the region.
