Israeli Air Force strikes around 100 targets across Gaza Strip
Over the past 24 hours, the Israeli Air Force, supported by ground forces, carried out attacks on approximately 100 targets throughout the Gaza Strip, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) reported via its army press service.
The strikes targeted underground infrastructure, weapons depots, and other military assets. IDF units, operating under the Southern Command and with support from Military Intelligence (AMAN) and the General Security Service (SHABAK), continue to engage terrorist organisations across Gaza.
Operations have focused on Gaza City and Jabalia, as well as the Khan Yunis and Rafah areas, where troops have systematically destroyed military infrastructure, tunnels, mined buildings, and militant firing positions. During these operations, weapons caches were uncovered, and several militants belonging to Hamas’s military wing were eliminated.
The current offensive is part of “Operation Gideon’s Chariots II,” a major ground campaign launched on September 15, 2025. The operation is aimed at dismantling Hamas’s remaining strongholds in Gaza City, the largest urban centre in the Strip, home to nearly half of Gaza’s 2.1 million residents.
The offensive was approved by Israel’s security cabinet on August 8, following the collapse of indirect ceasefire talks with Hamas in July 2025. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has described the operation as essential to defeating Hamas and securing the release of 48 remaining hostages, about 20 of whom are believed to be alive.
However, the campaign has drawn sharp domestic and international criticism over the risks it poses to civilians living in Gaza.
