Israeli attacks kill 25 in central Syria Including civilians, militants

09 September 2024 18:31

The death toll from the recent Israeli airstrikes on Musyaf has risen to 25, including five civilians, four regime soldiers, two members of the Lebanese Hezbollah of Syrian nationality, 11 Syrians working with Iranian militias, and three unidentified individuals.

At least 32 others were injured, Caliber.Az informs, citing the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

The strikes targeted several locations including the Scientific Research Centre, sites on the Musyaf-Wadi Al-Ouyun road, Hayr Abbas area, Al-Rawi village, and air defence factories near Al-Bayda village.

According to local sources, the Scientific Research Centre is involved in developing precision missiles and drones, and is not linked to chemical weapons.

Since the beginning of 2024, SOHR has documented 64 attacks by Israel in Syria, which have destroyed nearly 140 targets and resulted in 207 deaths and 142 injuries.

The Israeli military typically does not comment on its operations in Syria. Israeli jets frequently carry out strikes against Syria from Lebanon, likely to avoid Syrian airspace where various regional and international forces, including those from Russia and US, operate.

Throughout Syria’s 13-year civil war, Israel has routinely conducted air raids in the country, primarily targeting sites linked to Iran. The latest attack comes amid escalating regional tensions, with Iranian officials still vowing to respond to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in July.
