Israeli drone, airborne strikes hit rural Damascus, fatalities reported
On August 27, Syrian military sources and state media reported that Israeli forces carried out air raids on a military site near Al-Kiswa in rural Damascus, followed by an airborne operation.
The attacks came a day after a previous Israeli strike on the same site in Jabal al-Mana, Caliber.Az reports, citing Syrian media.
The first strike on August 26 targeted a site containing surveillance equipment. Syrian forces attempting to dismantle the devices were reportedly killed or injured during the attack.
Intensive reconnaissance flights were observed over the area during the operation. Syrian military sources also said that units had been conducting armoured exercises near the village of Deir Ali before the Israeli strikes.
The Syrian state news agency reported that the strikes caused fatalities, injuries, and damage to military vehicles, and that the details of the subsequent airborne operation remain unclear.
Moreover, a Syrian Ministry of Defence official said that several soldiers were killed in a drone strike targeting a building belonging to the 44th Division in Al-Kiswa.
The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attacks, describing them as violations of international law and a breach of Syria’s sovereignty. The ministry also warned that such operations could threaten regional stability.
Israel has not issued an official statement regarding the attacks. The region has seen repeated Israeli strikes in recent years, which Israel typically describes as targeting military or strategic assets.
