Israeli president, prime minister congratulate Azerbaijani, Armenian leaders on historic peace deal

10 August 2025 09:14

Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have congratulated the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia on the signing of a joint declaration outlining a framework for peace, emphasising sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the rejection of force.

“Congratulations to President Trump! Your bold leadership and global vision have made another peace agreement possible. I also congratulate President Aliyev, Prime Minister Pashinyan and the peoples of Azerbaijan and Armenia on signing this historic agreement. May you all enjoy a new era of reconciliation and shared prosperity,” Netanyahu said on X, per Caliber.Az.

Meanwhile, President Herzog posted: “I was deeply moved to see the signing of the historic agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington DC under the auspices of President of the United States Donald Trump.”

“I congratulate President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan for their leadership, and the peoples of Azerbaijan and Armenia. May they live in peace, security, and prosperity,” Herzog added.

The trilateral summit, hosted by President Trump on August 8, was the first meeting of its kind since the Soviet Union’s dissolution, bringing together Aliyev, Pashinyan, and Trump at the White House. The leaders signed a joint declaration with a 7-point framework aimed at fostering peace, rejecting enmity, and promoting good neighborly relations. Additionally, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia initialed a draft peace agreement titled “Agreement on Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia,” witnessed by Trump, Aliyev, and Pashinyan.

A key outcome was the establishment of the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP), also known as the Zangezur Corridor, a transit route through Armenia’s Syunik province connecting mainland Azerbaijan to its Nakhchivan exclave.
