Jewellery worth €4 million stolen from French museum
A major theft has taken place at the Lalique Museum in the commune of Wingen-sur-Moder in eastern France.
According to Le Parisien, the burglars made off with jewellery worth an estimated €4 million.
"Around 20 pieces of jewellery were stolen. The total damage is still being assessed, but it is expected to amount to several million euros, likely around €4 million," the newspaper quoted a source close to the investigation as saying.
The burglary occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. local time. After breaking into the building, the intruders headed directly to the museum's jewellery gallery. Although the alarm system was triggered, the suspects managed to escape before they could be apprehended. While the security company was checking the cause of the alarm, a cleaner arrived at the museum first and alerted the police.
According to the report, following the burglary at the Louvre Museum in October 2025, the Lalique Museum had been placed on a list of vulnerable cultural sites and was under heightened security monitoring.
The museum, which opened in 2011 next to the former factory of René Lalique (1860–1945), is dedicated to the celebrated French designer and artist renowned for his Art Nouveau and Art Deco glassware and jewellery. Its collection comprises more than 650 works.
