Jordan's minister announces Arab, Egyptian, Palestinian plan to rebuild Gaza without displacement
Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi has stated that there is an Arab, Egyptian, and Palestinian plan to reconstruct Gaza without displacing its inhabitants.
In an interview with Al-Mamlaka television, Safadi stressed the importance of maintaining ongoing aid shipments to Gaza and ensuring that the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is respected, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
He did not offer any specific details regarding the reconstruction plan. Safadi emphasised that Jordan's stance is grounded in the principle that “Jordan is for Jordanians, and Palestine is for Palestinians.”
He highlighted that King Abdullah II of Jordan, together with US President Donald Trump, has proposed "practical ideas" for the region. He also mentioned that Trump has acknowledged Jordan's key role in maintaining regional stability. In a separate interview with the Qatari news outlet Al Jazeera, Safadi emphasised that Jordan's top priority is safeguarding the country and its citizens.
“This is the foundation of our dialogue with President Trump,” he said. He also underscored that Arab coordination has the potential to offer an alternative to Trump’s plan for resolving the Gaza crisis, one that addresses the humanitarian disaster without displacing its residents.
“We have our vision and Trump has his," Safadi said. “We believe Gaza can be rebuilt without displacing its residents.”
“We told Trump that Palestine belongs to Palestinians and Jordan belongs to Jordanians,” he added, emphasising that Jordan’s stance is clear: to work towards a just and comprehensive peace without displacing Palestinians.
On February 11, Trump welcomed King Abdullah II to the White House, marking the first meeting between the US president and an Arab leader since his inauguration on January 20. After the meeting, King Abdullah shared a post on his official X account, reaffirming his opposition to the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank.
On February 4, Trump announced at a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the US planned to take control of Gaza and relocate its Palestinian population to neighbouring countries, including Egypt and Jordan. Trump’s proposal has been widely rejected by Palestinians, Arabs, and the international community, although it has garnered considerable political support within Israel across various factions.
