Kazakhstan is undergoing a comprehensive modernization of its automobile checkpoints on its border.
According to new data released by the Kazakh government that Caliber.Az reports on, citing Kazakh media sources, a total of nine checkpoints are being upgraded that are located along the country’s border with China, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.
As part of the planned works, authorities plan to increase throughput capacity by up to six times per day, from the current average of 170 to 960 vehicles while the time required to cross the border will be reduced to 30 minutes. The modernization of the nine checkpoints is scheduled to be completed this year.
Additionally, Kazakhstan has implemented an automated electronic queue system that is available through the Qoldau.kz platform and CargoRuqsat mobile application. The new system was put in place at the country's 10 automobile border checkpoints that forms the external border of the Eurasian Economic Union, a free trade zone consisting of Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzystan, Armenia and Kazakhstan.
