Kazakhstan foils attempt to blow up mausoleum in Turkestan
Kazakhstan prevented an attempt to blow up the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi and an armed attack in Astana in 2023, Deputy Chairman of the National Security Committee (KNB) Ruslan Seisembayev said.
Currently, there is a stable increased terrorist danger in Kazakhstan, at least two terrorist attacks are prevented annually in the country, Kazinforms quotes him as saying.
"This year attempts to detonate an improvised explosive device in the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmet Yasawi in Turkestan, as well as an armed attack in places of mass gathering in Astana were thwarted at an early stage of preparation," Seisembayev said at a meeting of the Council of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
He added that the information coming to the NSC allows us to conclude that the formation of terrorist threats to SCO member states "is taking place under the influence of a number of dominant factors".
