Kazakhstan to supply uranium to Czech Republic under new deal
Kazakhstan’s state-owned nuclear company, Kazatomprom, has signed a long-term agreement with Czech energy group ČEZ a.s. to supply natural uranium concentrate for use in the Czech Republic’s nuclear power stations.
The announcement was made on April 15 by Kazatomprom’s press service, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The agreement marks a significant step in expanding Kazakhstan’s presence in the European energy market and strengthens Kazatomprom’s role as a key player in the global uranium industry.
According to the statement published on the company’s official website, the uranium shipments will contribute to fuel security for the Czech Republic’s nuclear fleet.
Over the next seven years, deliveries from Kazakhstan are expected to meet around one-third of the uranium requirements for fuel assemblies produced by Westinghouse, which are currently used at the Temelín Nuclear Power Station.
