Kremlin negotiator mocks German chancellor following leaked EU call
Kremlin negotiator Kirill Dmitriev, who represents Russia in discussions with the United States on a potential “peace plan,” has openly mocked German Chancellor Friedrich Merz following remarks attributed to him in a leaked conversation among European leaders.
Dmitriev posted his reaction on X, sharing a news report about the contents of the confidential call. He drew attention to a line in which Merz allegedly claimed that the United States was “playing a game — with you and with us,” referring to both Ukraine and Europe, Caliber.Az reports.
“Chancellor Merz accuses the Americans of ‘playing games’… Dear Merz, you're not even in the game,” Dmitriev wrote. “You disqualified yourself with your warmongering, your obstruction of peace efforts, your unrealistic proposals, your migration policies, and your stubborn stupidity.”
The leaked transcript, reportedly obtained by Der Spiegel, documents a conversation involving several European leaders, NATO Secretary-General, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to the publication, the leaders of France and Germany expressed fears that Washington might “betray Ukraine and Europe” in negotiations with Moscow over a potential peace settlement.
The Wall Street Journal also reported that European leaders cautioned Zelenskyy against making any concessions to Russia without firm and reliable security guarantees from the United States.
