Kremlin regrets Telegram’s refusal to comply with Russian law
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has expressed regret over Telegram’s decision not to comply with Russian legislation, following reports of restrictions on the messaging platform’s operations in Russia.
Speaking to TASS, Peskov said it would be preferable if Telegram and other online services facing access restrictions in the country adhered to the requirements set by Russian authorities.
“I see and read the statements by Roskomnadzor saying that a decision has been made to slow down Telegram’s operations because the company is not fulfilling the requirements of Russian law. It is very unfortunate that the company is not complying, but there is a law that must be followed,” Peskov said in an interview with the agency.
According to the Kremlin spokesperson, Russian President Vladimir Putin does not use messaging applications and relies exclusively on secure government communication channels for official correspondence.
