Kremlin signals renewed push for Iran uranium transfer agreement
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that Russia had previously expressed readiness to accept enriched uranium from Iran, but that the United States opposed the proposal.
He made the remarks in an interview with India Today.
According to Peskov, the initiative was proposed by Vladimir Putin “quite some time ago” and could have been “a very good solution.” He said the American side had rejected the proposal, adding that it was therefore no longer on the negotiating table, although President Putin remained ready to revisit the idea.
Peskov further stated that Iran had agreed to the transfer of uranium, but that the United States was putting forward its own conditions. He added that the key issue was finding a way to reconcile the requirements and interests of all parties involved in order to reach an agreement.
