Kremlin rejects comparison between Ukraine and Iran conflicts

16 July 2026 15:17

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has rejected drawing parallels between the situations surrounding Iran and Ukraine, stressing that “every conflict is unique.”

Speaking at a briefing, Peskov noted that many conflicts are extremely complex in their structure, and, in fact, resolving many conflicts through a “deal,” as is commonly said in the United States, is impossible, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“It is a long, difficult and comprehensive settlement process. That is the only thing that can help achieve a resolution," he added.

According to Peskov, Moscow currently sees no prospects for a rapid resumption of negotiations on Ukraine, although Russia remains open to the negotiating process.

He also expressed gratitude to Türkiye for facilitating a path toward peace.

"We are well aware of our Turkish friends' willingness to continue facilitating a path toward peace regarding the situation around Ukraine. We are grateful to the Turkish side for this," he stressed.

He also said Russia continues to maintain contacts with its Iranian counterparts despite the latest escalation in the US military campaign in the Persian Gulf.

Addressing the issues related to the Russian economy, he made it clear that President Vladimir Putin regularly discusses the state of the country's economy with the government, and officials understand what measures are needed to stabilise and improve the situation.

Peskov described the situation in the Russian economy as stable, adding that existing difficulties were not critical in nature.

He acknowledged that Russia's economic growth rate remains insufficient, but noted that the global economy as a whole is also facing serious challenges and that Russia is not isolated from these developments.

The Kremlin spokesman also commented on the European Union's restrictions on cooperation with Russia in the tourism sector, saying such measures were unsurprising as they fit within the bloc's broader policy of bans and limitations across various fields. Despite this, he said, foreign tourism in Russia continues to grow, with visitors from countries of the Global South increasingly travelling to Russia and contributing to the country's tourism industry.
