Lachin Revival: 20 more families return as Azerbaijan continues resettlement efforts PHOTO/UPDATED

Another group of former internally displaced persons (IDPs) have arrived in Azerbaijan's Lachin district.

Caliber.Az reports that 20 families comprising 68 people have been relocated to Lachin district.

The residents were handed over the house keys.

The resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to Azerbaijan’s Lachin city continues under the directive of President Ilham Aliyev.

In the latest phase of this initiative, 20 families, comprising 68 individuals, have returned to the city, which was iberated from occupation.

Caliber.Az reports that this ongoing effort aims to restore normalcy and revitalize the region, which had been under occupation for nearly three decades. The return of these families marks a significant milestone in the government's comprehensive plan to rehabilitate Lachin and ensure the sustainable resettlement of its former residents.

Since the commencement of the resettlement program, 513 families, totaling 1,906 individuals, have been provided with permanent residences in Lachin.

The Azerbaijani army took full control of Lachin city along with the adjacent Zabukh and Sus villages on August 25, 2022.

Earlier, Lachin City was temporarily controlled by the Russian peacekeepers to provide communication between Armenia and the Karabakh region. Under the November 10, 2020, trilateral statement, signed by the Azerbaijani, Armenian and Russian leaders, the city should be handed over to Azerbaijan after the completion of a new road, which would be an alternative to the Lachin road.

Following the completion of the new road bypassing Lachin, Azerbaijan demanded that Armenia clear the unlawfully occupied city and adjacent settlements by August 25, 2022.
