Lebanon fires 60 rockets at Israel

04 November 2024 20:29

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have announced that at least 60 rockets were launched from Lebanon toward northern Israel within a few minutes.

Some rockets were intercepted, while others exploded in uninhabited areas, Caliber.Az reports via IDF.

As a result of these attacks, air raid sirens were activated twice in the Upper Galilee region. The Israeli army also struck a rocket launch site used in one of the attacks.

On November 2, rockets launched from Lebanon injured 11 individuals in central Israel, according to Israeli emergency services, following an incident in which one rocket struck a home.

The chances for a ceasefire appear to be diminishing as hostilities between Israeli forces and the Lebanese Hezbollah group have intensified since September, with optimism for a US-led ceasefire effort this week also fading.

"We went out and saw dust, children screaming, women screaming and everyone went to the house that was struck," said Qasim Mohab, a resident of Tira, where the rocket hit. "We were able to evacuate and rescue those who were inside the house, and thank God we were blessed that there was no one killed."

Around the time the rockets struck, Hezbollah announced it had targeted a military base near Tel Aviv. According to Israel's ambulance service, 11 individuals sustained injuries from shrapnel. Air raid sirens continued to sound in northern Israel as rocket and drone attacks from Lebanon persisted, according to the military.

On November 1, Lebanon's health ministry reported that 52 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes on over a dozen towns in the Baalbek region, known for its UNESCO-listed Roman ruins. The Israeli military stated on November 2 that it had killed two Hezbollah commanders in the Tyre area on November 1, although Hezbollah did not immediately respond.

Hezbollah, backed by Iran, began launching rockets at Israel in solidarity with its Palestinian ally Hamas, one day after Hamas militants attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in approximately 1,200 deaths and the abduction of 251 hostages taken to Gaza, according to Israeli estimates.
