Lebanon’s Sunni group denies being target of Israeli strike in Beirut
Lebanon’s Sunni political group al-Jamaa al-Islamiya has denied that it or any of its members were the target of an Israeli air strike in central Beirut.
In a statement carried by Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency, the group said its office in the Aisha Bakkar area had not been targeted in the strike earlier on March 11 and rejected reports suggesting that members of the organisation were killed, Al Jazeera reports.
The denial followed media claims that individuals affiliated with the group had died in the attack.
Israeli forces struck a residential building in the Aisha Bakkar neighbourhood before dawn. The exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed, and Lebanese authorities have not released an official toll.
Al-Jamaa al-Islamiya also condemned ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
