Lebanon Speaker casts doubt on Israel negotiations in Washington
Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has voiced skepticism regarding the effectiveness of ongoing negotiations with Israel.
Berri said Lebanon’s position supports indirect negotiations aimed at reaching a genuine ceasefire agreement, but questioned whether a ceasefire currently exists, Tasnim reports.
“Our position aligns with indirect negotiations to reach a real ceasefire agreement, but one must ask: does a ceasefire even exist at this point? The Zionist regime did not even comply with the October 2024 agreement. I do not expect much from the current negotiations in the United States. I am skeptical about these talks and do not support direct negotiations,” he stressed.
The third round of talks between Lebanon and Israel, mediated by the United States at ambassadorial level, is being held in Washington on May 14–15.
The US State Department previously described the first day of discussions as “productive and positive.”
