Lithuania boosts support for Ukraine with additional €13 million funding
The Lithuanian government has approved an extra €13 million for the Lithuanian Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid Fund, aimed at financing projects to aid in the restoration of Ukraine.
Finance Minister Gintarė Skaistė highlighted Lithuania's ongoing commitment to supporting Ukraine in key areas such as education and energy, urging international partners to join in these efforts to bolster Ukrainians' confidence in a secure and prosperous future, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
Since the onset of the war in 2022, Lithuania has allocated €24 million through the Fund for Ukraine's recovery initiatives. This funding has been directed towards repairing educational institutions in Borodianka and Irpin, as well as developing new projects like the School of the Future and rehabilitation programmes for those affected by the conflict.
In total, Lithuania's military, financial, and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine since the start of the war has approached nearly €1.5 billion.
Notably, the Baltic States - Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia - remain among Ukraine's most proactive partners, consistently providing military support and facilitating its integration into the EU and NATO.
Recently, it was announced that Lithuania will transfer the Vilnius thermal power plant to Ukraine, which will be dismantled and delivered in sections. Further details can be found in an article by RBC-Ukraine.
Additionally, the Lithuanian company Ignitis Group has contributed €4 million to the Energy Support Fund for Ukraine, earmarked for the purchase of equipment to establish 120 MW of capacity, aiding in the restoration of Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
